NATO established its first enhanced Forward Presence battlegroups in the Baltic states and Poland in 2017. Their multinational composition supports deterrence, collective defence and readiness on the Alliance’s eastern flank.
Lithuania
The German-led battlegroup includes Belgian, Dutch, Czech, Luxembourgish and Norwegian participation. Joint training develops interoperability and maintains readiness.
Poland
The US-led battlegroup includes forces from the United States, Croatia, Romania and the United Kingdom. Training and cooperation support regional defence and deterrence.
