Zdeněk Mikula became Deputy Commander of Multinational Division North East on 1 August 2026.
Born in Třebíč on 27 October 1972, he attended military school in Martin and the Military University of the Ground Forces in Vyškov, earning degrees in 1995 and 2000. He subsequently studied defence management in Brno, graduated from the US Army War College in 2018 and completed a further master’s degree at the US National Defense University in 2024.
He began service with the 1st Artillery Brigade in 1995, holding command, intelligence, fire-support and staff appointments. From 2010 to 2014, his roles in the 4th Rapid Deployment Brigade included G3/G5 chief and command of the 41st Mechanized Battalion. He later worked in capability development at the Ministry of Defence.
He became deputy commander of the 7th Mechanized Brigade in 2018, directed land-forces development during 2020–2022 and commanded the brigade during 2022–2026.
His deployments include KFOR in Kosovo (2004 and 2006), NATO’s training mission in Iraq (2007–2008) and ISAF in Afghanistan’s Wardak province (2011–2012).
